Garvey Park, on the Swan River foreshore in Ascot, is one of the City of Belmont’s best-loved green spaces. Restoring healthy bushland here means more food, shelter and habitat for the native wildlife that depends on the river corridor.
Inspired by taking part in community plantings like National Tree Day, BCEC set out to lead a green-up of its own. In June 2025, in partnership with the City of Belmont, we did exactly that.
Our community Green-up put 4,000 native plants in the ground in a single morning. Every plant was specifically chosen for the local soil type and for its value in providing food, shelter and habitat for native wildlife.
None of it would have been possible without our community turning out in force, and without Andrew and his team from the City of Belmont, who did all the groundwork - literally - to prepare the site and support the day.
Garvey Park shows the shift from picking up litter to putting life back into the landscape: thousands of plants, planted by neighbours, for a greener City of Belmont.
